Muscle soreness is a common sign that the body is absorbing the broken up tissue and laying down healthy new tissue. Depending upon the treatment, you may notice short-term redness along the skin which indicates increased blood flow, necessary for the healing process. It is essential to drink lots of water to flush the old toxins out of the body and facilitate the healing process.
What can I expect for each session?
Each session is at least an hour and will involve re-evaluation and manual movement intervention based on progress, presentation, and symptoms.
What should I wear?
Athletic wear, undergarments if outer clothing needs to be removed, preferably no jewelry. Bring any athletic footwear that is pertinent to your sport. If any braces, wraps, etc. have been prescribed, please bring those, also.
Do you only do physical therapy?
Dr. Katy performs physical therapy, active recovery, and performance enhancement based on each athlete’s or patient’s individual needs.
How many times do I need to come and how long will the session be?
After the first session (which can be from an hour to an hour and a half) , each subsequent session is an hour. The rate of return is dependent upon diagnosis and the patient’s response to treatment.
Are you in a big room and treating other patients while with me?
No. At this time there is a private room and you are the only focus.
Why does therapy take longer than I thought?
No type of therapy is a quick fix. The Sandberg System digs deep to find the root cause and that sometimes involves breaking down dysfunctional stability in order to create functional stability.
Are you a Physical Therapist?
Absolutely! Please read Dr. Katy’s PROFILE and email her at [email protected] if you have any questions.
What is Integrative Physical Therapy?
Integrative means “to make into a whole by bringing all parts together.” Dr. Katy examines your entire body to see how each part is influencing and affecting the other parts. Your body story will be discussed and assessed in detail. Treatment is based on all forces acting on the body, including both mechanical and emotional stressors. It is necessary to look at the big picture to get to the source of the problem(s), while alleviating symptoms.

Are you the same type of Physical Therapist (PT) as a chain physical therapist place or other PT chains?
Dr. Katy’s services are 100% one-on-one, and because this is her own practice, she is not limited to a specific time and can work on multiple diagnoses in one session. Her focus is not only on the body but on the mind. Everything must work in collaboration in order to heal correctly. She includes many techniques and modalities that many PTs do not.

Is ELDOA like yoga?
No, as the ELDOA poses are specifically influencing individual joints, so it can be used in a targeted manner. Yoga encourages a more fluid global process whereas ELDOA is more analytical joint specific.
Are you certified in all your offerings?
Yes. Dr. Katy has extensive training and takes continuing education courses throughout the year to best serve your needs.
Do you do massage? Will you only do a massage and no other treatment?

NUTRITION
ABOUT
Why would I need to see an RD?
Do you sometimes get light-headed, nauseous or experience cramping during or after a workout? Do you want to gain muscle, change your body composition, improve performance? Are you a weight-class athlete who struggles with their weight cut or wants to make it more efficient? Are you uncertain about certain food choices? Do you have digestive issues, bloating, stress or anxiety around food, or fatigue despite 7+ hours of sleep? Do you have questions about supplement choices, food management, how to eat correctly while traveling or sometimes feel like you’re in a fog or have dizziness? Do you start to drag later in the afternoon? If you answered YES to even one of these questions, that is why you should see a Registered Dietitian!
Why choose a Registered Dietitian (RD) vs a nutritionist?
An RD is a board-certified nutrition professional who has completed all the appropriate coursework (Bachelor’s and Master’s degree) and clinical training to sit for the national board exams. Similar to how you would only trust a board-certified surgeon to perform medical procedures, an RD is the professional to trust in regards to your nutrition plan. A nutritionist is less clearly defined, and could range from a PhD candidate in metabolism or a weekend-certification coach.
What do the letters after her name mean?
MS stands for Masters of Science, which means that she completed graduate coursework in Clinical Nutrition. RD stands for Registered Dietitian. LDN means that this practitioner is legally licensed to practice in their state (Illinois).
PHILOSOPHIES
What are Christina’s nutrition philosophies?
Scientific evidence made simply for you. Christina runs an evidence based, but not evidence limited, practice. She implements simple, customized changes to her athlete’s lifestyle which they collaborate on. Her practice focuses on the other 20+ hours a day that the athlete is not in-house, and maximizing their potential to transition from good to great athletes. Food is fuel, but it can be so much more than that. It can be comfort, tradition, routine, culture…and Christina balances the relationship that an athlete has with their food to their training potential. Though Christina is the expert in nutrition, each athlete is the expert in themselves, and together, they can curate the best nutrition plan for that individual. Let Christina handle the numbers, and you can focus on the tangible goals you set together.
WHAT TO EXPECT
What should I expect in working with the Bracey Performance Dietitian?
When you work with Christina, you will have in-person or virtual assessments and follow-ups. Between sessions, you will have priority access to the RD in-house and online to ask any questions, show progress, document in your food photo log, receive check-in’s, and utilize product/supplement discounts you won’t find anywhere else. All virtual interactions are through a HIPAA-compliant platform for privacy and security purposes. Each session and plan is tailored to your individual nutrition, motivation, learning style, training, and lifestyle. You will have a reliable professional to listen to you versus talk at you, and create a no-judgement space for you to speak openly.
What should I not expect in working with the Dietitian?
Christina believes in working with you to ensure you can take ownership of what fuels your body to optimize performance. She does NOT believe in: “You can’t have that”. Restrictive feeding. Bro science. One-time meal plans/calorie counts. Trendy diets. Aggressive supplement routines. Food/body shaming. A hands-off approach, unless otherwise specified.
What do I need to do prior to my initial assessment?
Christina will send electronic forms for you to fill out at least 24 hours prior to your session to gather more information about you so your time together will be spent efficiently (these will take only 10 to 15 minutes to complete). You just need to bring your phone if you have one, and take a picture of any supplements you take, or products you want to review. Some clients like to bring something to take notes with, but Christina will email a review to you.
Do I have to track my calories or weigh my food?
No.
Do I have to give up pasta, pizza, burgers, cookies, etc.?
Absolutely not! These foods can and will fit properly into a fueling plan (and yes that includes “regular” pizza crust not just cauliflower pizza crust!).
Will I be put on a keto/paleo/gluten-free/vegan diet?
No, unless this is something that is needed based on your dietary restrictions. She will work with you to incorporate your eating style, foods you enjoy, etc. to meet the performance goal you want to achieve.

Can I purchase multiple sessions or do you have packages, memberships or contracts with discounts?
Yes, we have packages of 4, 12, 24, and 48 to fit your fueling needs and performance goals.
I am a Professional Athlete, or I am an Agent, which package would you recommend?
The 48-pack is recommended, which is weekly follow-ups for 12 months. Think of it as having constant access to an RD, year-round. It is proven that professional athletes benefit from a sports nutrition expert to guide you through not only how much energy you need to take in, but manipulating food balance/timing, what to eat while travelling, managing supplements with minimal risk of consuming banned substances, hydration, addressing digestive concerns, energy levels, meal prep service ordering, and more. When athletic performance becomes your job, one thing that may be holding you back from greatness is your nutrition (…getting a macro plan from an online fitness coach may not be fueling your body for victory). In the end, your competitor is likely to also be working with a dietitian and optimizing their performance.
I am a Collegiate Athlete, or I am an Agent, which package would you recommend?
The 24-pack is recommended, which is bi-weekly sessions for 12 months. An athlete of your caliber needs the support, structure, and guidance from a nutrition professional to enhance your athletic performance. Our dietitian is able to recommend the best food and supplements for your specific needs and goals. With the option to meet virtually, Christina focuses on your nutrition strategies only, and has the flexibility to work with you and your fueling plan both in season and off season.
I'm in High School, or will be next year, which package would you recommend?
The 12-pack, which is either bi-weekly sessions for 6 months or monthly sessions for 12 months. As an athlete who wants to make state or further their athletic endeavors, not only do you have to fuel your body for success, but you also need to fuel your body to grow! For many high school athletes, this is a crucial window of opportunity to gain a competitive edge in your performance, and food/nutrition is one piece of that puzzle. Taking the time now to set a strong nutrition foundation will ultimately support you to your fullest athletic potential and healthy self.
I'm in Middle School or will be next year, which package would you recommend?
The 12-pack, which is either bi-weekly sessions for 6 months or monthly sessions for 12 months. Now is the time to focus on overarching nutrition habits. Fueling the body correctly is crucial for adolescent athletes, and students, to attain proper growth and perform optimally. In order to support healthy habits on the field, and in the classroom, the simple structure Christina can provide our athletes sets them up for a strong nutrition foundation.

GENERAL
My season just got cancelled or delayed due to COVID-19, what should I do?
It is certainly a trying time for the world right now, but this is a great time to focus on building strong performance habits. Think about it as a long off-season: a time to fine-tune your skills, improve your strength and conditioning, rehabilitate any injuries, practice good recovery habits, and learn how to fuel your body properly. Time is no longer an excuse, and you can take this opportunity by the reins and optimize your performance, which includes proper nutrition/hydration.
